Today I want to talk about the reoccurring false teaching of Soul Ties and why it is dangerous. Truth be told a lot of people don't know what a soul is and what it consists of and that's why a lot of people is easily swayed because they don't have the knowledge concerning it. So that is the first thing we are going to talk about so we can debunk and expose the the lies of Soul Ties.
What Is A Soul And Why is it important?
It's like when a huge gaming company (Nintendo = creator) creates a game (Super Mario, Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong) and licensed them to be under the name Nintendo so these games are part of it despite having different names.
Problem with The church today.
God is one but has three different parts (God the Father, God the Son(Jesus), & God the Spirit(Holy Spirit) and created man to be just like him.
So with that, what is a soul and why did God give us one, what role does it play in a human being?
Christianity.com says that ''the soul is our humanity that makes us feel emotions. It is our way to magnify God through our human limitations.''
Our soul is tied to our mind and our thoughts that's why the scripture says, so he thinketh so is he, cause if a man thinks and mediates on his thoughts and agrees with it then he becomes that(Prvbs 23:7)
So then if that's what a soul is then how can a soul become one if a soul is our thoughts, emotions and what we believe? Doesn't that mean we would be able to read each other's minds and hear each other's thoughts?
Problem with The church today.
In todays churches the subject of Soul Ties is a common teaching that needs to be stopped. The church references 1 Corinthians 6:13-20 which talks about sexual immorality, that our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit, and that we shouldn't join or become One with a prostitute. And then they also reference 1 Samuel 18:1 which talks about David and Jonathan soul being sown together.
What they don't understand is that they fell into the trap of not paying attention to the context and because they didn't pay attention to the context, the pastor misquotes and misinterpretes what is being said in the bible.
So too destroy this false teaching of Soul Ties, the scriptures that are presented need to be broken down correctly and talked about accurately.
Fornication is not a Soul Tie
As the church is aware, The scriptures tell people that when a man and a woman have sex outside of marriage or they go outside of their marriage, it is called fornication or adultry. In 1 Corinthians 6:16 it tells people to do not become One flesh with a prostitute. And even in the book of Genesis, God put adam to sleep and made him a helper and when adam woke up and seen his helper he said '' she is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh, she will be called woman because she came out of man."
You see how the word soul isn't present in any of these scriptures, it does talk about the body(flesh) becoming one. When a man and woman have sex they become one physically literally, think about it when a man enters a woman during intercourse the two bodies become one, when a man and a woman consimates their marriage to become official they have to become one body(have sex) the marriage paper is only important to government, the deed of sex is what matters to God for a man and woman to become one flesh.
So then family, for biblical accuracy and for your souls sake, the truth is that it's called fornication not soul tie.
Unhealthy relationships is not soul ties
Now we are gonna tackle 1 Samuel 18 where the original text refers to the word soul ties.
When we read 1 Samuel 18 it starts by saying that David and Saul just finished speaking to each other then David seen Jonathan Saul's son, when they meet each other the text says their souls were knit together or in the NLT version it says "There was a immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David."
When you continue to read the text further down it explains how deeper their relationship gets and how they loved one another as if it was their own soul.
You see how the word soul tie is a example of a relationship and not sexual immorality, David and Jonathan didn't have sex to strengthen their bond together, nor was it them having a bad relationship. The bible only uses the word soul tie because of this,
David and Jonathan are too souls that love each other so much that they thought about each other alot as if it was one, not because they were one.
It's like this, remember in the start of Matthew 7 where Jesus says "Do not judge therefore the same judgement you use with others will be measured back to you, hypocrite first take the log out of your own eye before getting the speck out of their eye. In this text Jesus wasnt saying not to judge at all because he says "get the log out of your own eye then you can get the speck out of your own eye. Jesus was saying do not use bad judgement on people instead use right judgement cause it would be better to not judge at all, instead judge yourself before making a judgement on others.
This is why context in the bible is very important because when you don't read the context and understand it, it leads to false teaching and misinformation which can be dangerous to your soul and the souls of others.
In the word of God it mentions relationships alot throughout, like the explanation of unequally yoking in 2 Cor 6:14 and being around bad people can mess up good character in 1 Cor 15:33. When you are in a relationship and it's a bad one, it's not a soul tie, It is called being in a bad relationship.
In conclusion, two people's soul can never become one even in the act of marriage as the bible says " A man leaves his parents house to go find his wife and together they become one flesh(or body). Also fornication is fornication nothing more, nothing less and does not create soul ties, it is just referenced as sexual immorality. Last but least, a person cannot create a soul tie by drawing close to the opposite gender without the act of sex nor can a soul tie be made by hanging around the wrong people, it is just called a unhealthy relationship or it's called being lustful.
